At LVCS we use a program called the Accelerated Reader program that allows students to choose books within their reading level, read those books, and then take short comprehension quizzes (3-10 questions) and earn points for passing them. Those books are known to students as AR books and the quizzes as AR quizzes. Students can earn points to get onto Reader boards in the library or even to get coupons for Scholastic Books. In our classroom we have an AR Tree. When a student gets 80% or higher on a quiz they can add a leaf to the tree and if they get 100% they can add an apple.
All AR books at the school are marked with their levels. If you have books at home or are looking for books at your public library or book store and want to know if they are an appropriate AR level for your student, you can go to the AR Book Finder website to see if the book is in their database and what Book Level (BL) it is. |
Our school has a license to the IXL math website. Students can sign in using their username and password and you can help them to choose activities from any of the Common Core math standards. As students pass the activities they earn awards which makes the practice extra fun!

Scholastic Book Orders are sent home once a month. You may enter orders online or return order forms with your method of payment by the given due date. Checks are preferable for payment when order forms are sent to class. Your orders help us to earn free books for our class and are a great way to get your kiddos excited about books and reading!
